MID reporting can be automated

Fleets will save themselves huge amounts of time-wasting legal hassles - by setting up their computer systems to make automatic reports to the Motor Insurance Database.

Fleets could suffer financial penalties or even find cars being stopped by the police, if vehicles are not registered, it was pointed out at a recent Association of Car Fleet Operators AGM.

Gavin Clark, sales and marketing manager at Chevin Fleet Solutions said: "Due to the increased enforcement of this and the use of number plate recognition cameras to identify potentially uninsured cars and stop them on the road, any poor reporting of new cars on the fleet could result in time delays and even hefty fines.

"Good Fleet Management software should solve the problem completely, by either providing a complete list of current vehicles automatically each month to your insurance company or broker, or by providing a comprehensive export that can be uploaded directly to the MID."
