Dudley MBC Chooses FleetWave From Chevin

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council is the latest public sector organisation to have chosen the market - leading FleetWave software system from Chevin Fleet Solutions, in order to improve efficiency in the management of its fleet and workshop operations.

Dudley MBC’s fleet comprises over 1,600 vehicles, involving a mixture of cars, commercial vehicles, plant and taxis. The organisation has a transport team of 36 members of staff located at the Authority’s principal operating base. Warner Faulkner, Transport Manager, commented: "We were looking for an extremely flexible transport system that would deliver functionality to solve a wide range of fleet and workshop management issues within our organisation. It also needed to be web-based and able to interface with a number of our other existing information systems, so FleetWave® from Chevin was the ideal solution to meet all of our criteria." Dudley MBC had a large number of key requirements for the new transport system, including the ability to cater for: Fleet Administration/Compliance, Driver Administration, Hire Control, Workshop Management / Job Control, Maintenance Scheduling, Contract Control, Vehicle Procurement and Tyre Management. The selected system also had to provide functionality: - To create a vehicle maintenance schedule in advance; to automatically alert users so replacement-hire vehicles could be ordered in a timely manner, thus reducing dead time for hire vehicles. - To report on all through life vehicle costs for the term of the contract lease, providing better management information to facilitate the vehicle replacement process. - To produce a vehicle replacement programme within the system and to have a level of automatic reporting, so lead times for contract extension / replacement could be taken into account. - To maintain a schedule of works for labour and parts costs for vehicle servicing. - To hold vehicle servicing performance measures, and then capture and report actual performance against such measures. - To improve the management information reports available from the system, so searches could be carried out without system restrictions. - To allow compliance with the EU 4th directive. - To provide "fleet compliance" functionality that would allow monitoring of numerous operational fleet activities, assisting in the discharge of the Authority’s legal responsibilities for its transport function. Ashley Sowerby, Managing Director, Chevin Fleet Solutions commenting on the contract win, said: "Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council is yet another local authority to add to our long list of public sector customers. Dudley MBC has clearly seen the benefits that the FleetWave® system can have for their organisation, not only for managing their fleet and workshop operations, but also for a variety of other associated business areas, saving them time and money and increasing efficiency."
